On May 22, 2024, Prof. Dou Xiankang, President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) met with Dr. Sudip Parikh, CEO of AAAS. Dr. Lan Yujie, Vice President of NSFC  attended the meeting.

President Dou Xiankang introduced the reform measures of NSFC in basic research, applied basic research and young talent cultivation. He stated that NSFC has always attached great importance to international cooperation and hopes that both sides can make efforts to promoting scientific research activities and the dissemination of scientific achievements. Dr. Parikh said that in recent years, more and more Chinese authors have been seen in Science journal. AAAS highly values the cooperation with Chinese partners and is willing to promote bilateral cooperation through face-to-face communication.

The two sides exchanged their views on topics including the current status of scientific research in China and the U.S., establishing cooperation mechanisms, and promoting exchanges among young scientists of the two countries.

Dr. Yao Yupeng, Executive Deputy Director General of Department of Earth Sciences and Deputy Director general of Bureau of Planning and Policy, Dr. Zhang Yongtao, Acting Director General of Bureau of International Cooperation, and Prof. Peng Jie, Director General of Center for Science Communication and Achievement Transformation also attended the meeting.
