On June 26, 2019, NSFC Secretary-General Han Yu met with a delegation led by Dr. Rush D. Holt, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Prof. Han briefed the delegation on the latest developments of NSFC’s reform. The two sides then engaged in in-depth discussions over topics including open access and promoting the Sino-US scientific exchange and cooperation. 

During the meeting, Prof. Han elaborated on the work that has been done on open access and the NSFC’s considerations on relevant policies. The AAAS delegation introduced its approach and the status quo of Science and other academic journals on open access. Dr. Holt pointed out that the international scientific cooperation led or participated by Chinese scientists have made remarkable achievements and more and more Chinese scientist are welcome to take part in the international arena. The two sides agreed that NSFC and AAAS should play their due roles in enhancing the exchange and cooperation between the Chinese and American scientific communities, thus contributing to the advancement of science and knowledge globally.

Representatives of Bureau of Policy, the Center for Scientific Communication, Bureau of International Cooperation of NSFC also attended the meeting.
